El Salvador Pop Art

El Salvador is a wildly colorful place.  A bright palette is in evidence everywhere.  The following are some examples of the many murals, paintings and other art media I have been enjoying this week.

Next is a small section of the front driver’s side windshield of a chicken bus I was riding in today.  I especially like the two hanging scarlet macaws…no fuzzy dice here!

Here’s one from outside a coffee shop in Ataco, a nearby town I visited a few days ago.

In the Ruta de las Flores area, many of the street poles have flowers painted on them as well.

The graffiti art is one of my favorite things Latin America. People are so talented and creative, and you can tell that this is a big outlet for their political and cultural statements.

I love the photo of you “sitting” on the girl’s lap 🙂

Me too Stephanie. I noticed that the indigenous highland women do not wear traditional clothing like they do in the highlands of Guatemala. I asked someone and was told that since the war they do not want to stand out. Perhaps that accounts for some of the explosively wonderful color seen in their street art and painting.
